Don’t forget that your $100 volunteer check is due before the first practice. This check will be held until your volunteer commitments are met and then it will be destroyed. You may mail your check to the Treasurer, Paul Brazier, at 14110 Rock Canyon Dr, Centreville, VA 20121. No child will be allowed to begin practice on June 1 without having turned in the volunteer commitment check.

    04:30 - 05:30pm - Returning Marlins (Ages 9 and over)
    05:30 - 06:30pm - New Marlins ONLY (All ages)

    04:30 - 05:30pm - Returning Marlins (Ages 9 and over)

There are t-shirts, polo shirts, and sleeveless shirts as well as hoodies, sweat pants, flannel pants and shorts - something to please every Marlins fan! Deadline for First Orders of Spirit Wear is now Wednesday, May 5th! To order your spirit wear:

Officials Training

Please consider training to become a certified stroke and turn judge. The training takes a couple of hours and is followed by a test. Once you pass the test, you then train alongside an existing stroke and turn judge at three events and then you are certified to judge independently at future meets. We can use the two time trials for training as well as regular meets. The certification is good for two years. If you are interested in taking the training, please email karynrob@cox.net.

Team Swim Suits

If you have not yet purchased a 2010-11 team suit for your child, please visit the Aardvark store in Chantilly to get one. Suits for girls are $50 and suits for boys are $35 and these suits are two-year suits. The Aardvark store is located at:

Volunteering at Swim Meets

  • Referee
    Has full authority over all officials and is responsible for enforcing all rules. Also shall signal the starter that all officials are in position and eady for each race. This position requires stroke and turn judge andstarter experience, and referee training.
  • Starter
    Responsible for announcing each event. This position requires experience as a stroke and turn judge, and starter training.
  • Stroke and Turn Judges
    Responsible for determining if the swimmers are doing legal strokes as defined by the USA Swimming Rules. This position requires stroke and turn judge training.
  • Announcer
    Responsible for announcing the starting of the meet, playing the National Anthem, making sure the flag is displayed, and making any other necessary announcements during the meet such as breaks, results, etc.
  • Runner
    Takes the time cards from the timers and brings them to the computer table. Assists clerk of course with distributing time cards.
  • Clerk of Course
    Holds all the timecards and is responsible for calling out the kids names and lining them up for their events.
  • Chief Timer
    Makes sure all timers are ready before each event and starts his stopwatch for each event as a backup if any lane timers have a problem.
  • Chief Timer Assistant
    Helps the chief timer as necessary and also keeps a backup time.
  • Ribbons
    Receives the timecards from the runners and orders/groups the timecards by event with any associated DQ slips and then gives them to the computer people. Once the entries are recorded and labels are printed, the ribbon people stick the labels on the appropriate ribbon and store them for their team.
  • Computers
    Responsible for entering the times from the timecards into the computer.
  • Set-Up
    At home meets, must set up the pool for the meet. For a Saturday meet, setup volunteers must arrive at the pool on the FRIDAY night before the meet at 7:45pm and on Saturday by 7:30am to set up concessions. For Wednesday meets, set up people must get to the pool by 4:00pm.
  • Concessions
    Responsible for selling and helping setup and breakdown the concessions.
  • Awards Clerk
    For Wednesday home meets, responsible for giving out a "Heat Winner" ribbon to the swimmer that wins each heat.
  • Donut Sales
    Helps with pick up, sale, and distribution of Krispy Kreme Donuts.
  • Banquet
    Helps with set up, clean up, and/or food preparation for end of season banquet.
